Explore Colombia in these 5 cities

Colombia it's all a green area bordering the Caribbean sea. There are more than 5 cities worth mentioning but here are the most recommended.

Colombia is a diverse and vibrant country with a wide range of attractions. Located in South America surrounded by Ecuador, Venezuela, Brazil and the Caribbean sea, it is a great destination for tourists looking to experience a great time at the beach, partying, or exploring the rainforest with a low budget. Here are five places you should consider visiting:

Cartagena

Cartagena is a captivating coastal city on Colombia’s Caribbean coast. Its historic center, known as the walled city, is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Stroll through its colorful colonial streets, visit the imposing Castillo San Felipe de Barajas fortress, and explore the vibrant plazas. Don’t miss the chance to relax on the nearby white-sand beaches and indulge in the local seafood cuisine. Cartagena is often compared to Miami but less expensive in activities to do or places to visit. Catch the many tours to the islands surrounding this city and explore the vibrant nightlife.

Bogota

As the capital and cultural hub of Colombia, Bogotá offers a mix of historical landmarks, artistic neighborhoods, and lively urban scenes. Explore the historic La Candelaria district, visit the impressive Gold Museum, and take a cable car ride up to Monserrate for panoramic views of the city. Bogotá is also home to numerous art galleries, vibrant street art, and a thriving culinary scene.

Medellin

Once considered one of the world’s most dangerous cities, Medellín has undergone a remarkable transformation and is now a bustling metropolis known for its innovative urban planning. Ride the famous Metrocable system for sweeping views of the city, visit the Botero Plaza to admire the renowned artist’s sculptures, and explore the vibrant neighborhoods of Poblado and Laureles.

If you follow the latin music culture, you might get a treat for free concerts from different world recognized latin artists. I had the chance to enjoy a street concert by Karol G in 2022 in Provenza. Additionally, if you enjoy the nightlife, then Parque Lleras is the area to visit (located in Provenza).

Bonus: Visit Guatape (only 2 hrs away) which is the site for the famous Pedra Penol and climb to the top of the hill.

Tayrona National Natural Park

Located on the Caribbean coast, Tayrona National Natural Park is a breathtaking natural paradise. It boasts pristine beaches, lush rainforests, and ancient archaeological sites. Hike through the park’s trails, relax on stunning beaches like Cabo San Juan, and immerse yourself in the region’s rich biodiversity.

Cali

Saved one of the best for last. Cali, known as the “Salsa Capital of the World,” offers a vibrant and energetic atmosphere with a mix of cultural, historical, and outdoor attractions. Cali is synonymous with salsa dancing. Immerse yourself in the city’s pulsating rhythm by taking a salsa class or visiting one of the lively salsa clubs. Don’t miss the opportunity to witness incredible dance performances and experience the contagious energy of the salsa scene.

The San Antonio neighborhood in Cali is a picturesque area with colorful houses, narrow streets, and beautiful colonial architecture. Explore the local artisan shops, art galleries, and cafes. Visit the San Antonio Church and enjoy panoramic views of the city from the nearby hilltop park. Cali’s location in the Valle del Cauca region offers opportunities for outdoor adventures. Head to the surrounding mountains for hiking or mountain biking. Visit the nearby town of Jamundí for paragliding, or take a trip to the stunning Pance River to relax by the waterfalls and enjoy nature.

Remember, Cali is also known for its lively festivals, such as the Feria de Cali in December, which showcases salsa dancing, music, and parades. So, if you have the opportunity, try to coincide your visit with one of these vibrant celebrations.

Cali, Colombia.

These five destinations provide a glimpse into Colombia’s rich culture, history, natural beauty, and culinary delights. Whether you’re seeking vibrant cities, stunning coastlines, or immersive cultural experiences, Colombia has something for everyone to enjoy.
